Naval Art of Paul Deacon

A mixed force of French emigres and British regulars landed in Brittany to take back the region from revolutionaries.

The 17,000 men, however, received a terrible shock when confronted by a waiting army under General Hoche.

The emigres suffered more than 13,000 men killed, wounded or captured while the French lost 500 of their 13,000 troops.

The British were safely returned home by the Royal Navy.
