George IV
Prince Regent,
King of England
1762-1830
The
oldest son of George III, George
IV was an overweight wastrel who took much pleasure in women and
gambling.
Forced
by his father's illness to taking over the reins of state, George
was first Prince Regent, during the height of the Napoleonic Wars,
then king.
Unlike
his father, he was never a favourite of the people and his unhappy
marriage to, and divorce from, Queen Caroline, did not help his
popularity.
