Josef Alvintzy
Austrian
General
1735-1810
Coming
from Transylvania, Josef Alvintzy was another Austrian
commander who learnt his trade against the Turks during
the Seven Years War.
In 1794, he beat General Dumouriez
at Neerwinden and,
while competitive against Napoleon
Bonaparte at Arcola
and Rivoli, eventually
succumbed to the young military master.
He became a field marshal and administrator of Hungary.
