We
have had so many queries about how the Waterloo Diorama is going
we asked for an update from Hille de Gooyer and his helpful lads
Barry and Jordy.
The
date for completion of the massive undertaking was to have been
November, but the guys have deferred that until January. And massive
may be understating the matter. The diorama
is 3.5 metres by 2.5 metres and is likely to have 1200 1/72 scale
figures complete with buildings and terrain.
According
to Hille: "Not
that we have a big delay of things, but the fact we like it so
much that we are detailing more and more and that's a time-eater.
"What
to think of the construction of a Belgium road wall - containing
over 500 stones per 10 inches (25 centimetres).
"We
have bought a bag of material in the aquarium shop. We also have
created scenery regarding some (unfortunate) killed cattle."
The
guys are still painting the troops - the Allied general staff
and the Brunswickers - and, so the proud dad says, the boys are
still getting into painting the soldiers.
Reading
the subtext there may be a bit of a challenge from PS2 games and
DVDs, but they are "holding on".
Fantastic
effort lads - you've got a lot of fans out there in the world
of Napoleonic buffs. There'd be more than a few children green
with envy that a dad would attempt such a huge project with them.
The
Napoleonic Guide is hoping to have more pictures of the completed
diorama very soon and, it has to be said, we can't wait!
